So, what is this MPS stuff anyway?

Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) is a disorder caused by bad genes. See, in people without MPS, the mommy gene and the daddy gene get together to make a baby gene that makes this enzyme stuff called alpha-L-iduronidase. This enzyme cuts up things called mucopolysaccharides that are used to make connective tissue in the body.

In people like me, there was a thing called a recessive gene in both my mommy and daddy that made a baby gene that won't make the enzyme I need. This leads to all sorts of bad things that affect every part of my body. If I don't get a transplant, I can expect to die in 5-10 years. Most of those years won't be very fun. So...I am getting a transplant.
