First Apology
Based on what I have seen thus far, an e-mail that was sent out in my name today was done improperly. If you are here about that, please read on.
I have been trying to get information out about my book and about the issues it raises. I saw an opportunity to do so both legally and ethically, I thought, when I received e-mail from an "Opt-in" marketing company. It was an offer for an e-mail campaign to "Opt-in" e-mail lists. I am on a million of them and, I thought this meant two things:
1. The people on the e-mail lists were there because they had agreed to be there and wanted information of the sort that was being sent.
2. Each e-mail would provide an automatic removal link for those who no longer wished to be on the list.
3. The e-mail return address would be real since there was no reason to hide anything.
I am unable to verify number 1, but I have verified from several people that there was no way to automatically opt out of the list and the e-mail addresses used were false. I apologize.
I have also found, since the e-mail went out, that certain items were missing from the mailer that should have been included in addition to what was there. I relied on people I thought were professionals and I was absolutely wrong. I am appalled at how stupid I was.
It makes me angry that the reply addresses were false because I specifically told the company that I couldn't use false return addresses. Believe me, I had no idea they would do this. Why would I have a link to my page if I were trying to hide my identity or address? I am not trying to hide. I have a good uplifiting story to tell and I can't do that by hiding. Again, I was stupid.
I asked a lot of questions before doing this and thought this campaign was proper from all angles. I even checked the company out before I went into this venture.
I cannot make up for the fact you received something you really didn't want to. I can, however, do my best to help you get off the list that caused this e-mail to go to you. I will try and get the link that you should have gotten in the first place and post it here in the next day or two. It depends on how helpful the company that did this is. In the meantime, please be patient. I am doing all I can to fix the problem.
